Maybe it’s the lack of time spent in the confines of the Hobie over the colder months, but it seems strange to be as excited as I am about my latest upgrade to the Oasis. Hobie’s Hookless Map pockets replace the menacing mesh that covers the moulded pockets on most models of the Hobie kayak range.
Although doing their job of holding valuables securely in the sides of the Hobie, the standard mesh had an uncanny knack of tangling your trebles making it near impossible to remove in any kind of haste. This usually resulted in a frustrated angler and inappropriate use of your precious braid scissors. Finally, Hobie have produced a solution.
Super simple to install it is just a case of removing the screws holding the pockets bracket in place and splitting the two plastic brackets to expose the original mesh. Remove the mesh and replace it with the new rubber pocket, ensuring each hole is lined up correctly. Place the top plastic bracket back on top and squeeze it back together. I found a fair bit of force was required to have the teeth re-grip with the new rubber pocket.
Once secure screw the bracket back onto the Hobie. Don’t forget to reinstall the mechanism that keeps the rudder cord tight. It’s easily done.
Easy as that. No more tangled treble’s, scrambled stingers or snarling split rings. Also worth mentioning the new shape allows for a few extra items as well.
